The hotel is located within the historic center of Merida, five blocks north-east of the Parque Principal with Cathedral (corner Calle 60 and Calle 61), and five blocks south south-east from the beginning of the city’s Main Avenue Paseo de Montejo  (Calle 56A and Calle 47). The hotel’s location makes it very convenient to reach Merida’s two main areas of attraction by foot. Both destinations are about a short five minute walk from the hotel. The hotel is situated within the historic center of Merida, yet it is just remote enough from the noisy establishments that are located in the very center of the town. With this, the guests can enjoy a peaceful and quiet night back in their room.

Hotel Meridano is approximately 20 minutes from Merida’s International Airport and just 45 minutes from the main beaches in Progreso.

History:

The French colonial building was built in 1914, during the flourishing agricultural epoch of the henequen in Yucatán. In the 1940's the building was converted into the Hotel Palace, servicing tourists and travelers for the next 40 years. In the 1980's the building was converted into an office building, occupied by the Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán. In 1996, under new management, the building was converted back into a Hotel, and once again provides its valued guests a friendly, clean and economical place to stay while spending time in Mérida, Yucatán, México.

The hotel is owned by Fernando Rodriguez Escoffie and Lizbeth Medina de Rodriguez.

 

Description Land and Building:

The hotel is built on 1,080 m2 of land (0.267 acres), shaped somewhat irregularly. The frontage (on calle 54) is ~ 18 meters (59 feet), the depth is ~63 meters (207 feet), the width in the back is ~16 meters (52.5 feet). The property is completely walled in, entrance and exit is through the front entrance only. The complex contains two courtyards, the front courtyard is used as a covered parking, and the back courtyard contains the pool and garden.

Free covered parking is available, 6 cars fit comfortably under the parking structure. However, when necessary up to 10 cars will fit in the courtyard. The availability of parking is a strong selling feature, especially with local travelers.

 

Restaurant:

The restaurant is currently serving the complimentary breakfast, included with the room rate. The restaurant seats 24 guests.

 

Public Restrooms:

One unisex restroom for guest use.

One unisex employee restroom.

 

Laundry:

The hotel laundry has three washers and three dryers, used for daily hotel related laundry.

Laundry service is also offered to walk-ins and hotel guests, for a fee.

All ancient visible wiring in the hallways of the front part of the hotel removed and replaced with new installation across the roof. Replaced numerous old electrical panels in the entrance of the hotel with new main panel in restaurant. Installed new distribution panels in the center of the hotel for future rewiring of the back part of the hotel.

 

Water Distribution:

New pressurized water system for 3 Suites and 2 Deluxe rooms, including water heater.

 

Guest Rooms:

Completely remodeled 3 suites and 2 deluxe rooms, redesigned layout, new bathrooms, fixtures, furniture, custom lights, etc. Restored original tall 17 feet room ceilings (5.4 meters). Installed new mini-split A/Cs.

Repainted most other guest rooms.

 

Reception:

Completely remodeled reception, redesigned layout, restored original tall 17 feet room ceilings (5.4 meters). New reception desk designed with local cantera stone engraving.

 

Guest Restroom:

Current Business:

The current business consists mainly of national guests from all over the Mexican Republic. It is a combination of business traveler, families that travel to Merida for medical reasons, and leisure travelers. There is also a smaller but growing percentage of international travelers, ranging from tourists that are on a tight budget, to middle class customers that are enjoying the offered comfort and charm of an authentic, colonial style hotel. Since the renovations and with the launch of the updated webpage, the international inquiries and reservations, especially over the web, have been increasing steadily.
